In 2008, when the economic crisis hit Europe, Arta, a mother of two, was forced to close the women’s clothing shop she owned in the center of Riga, Latvia, and lose her apartment to the bank. Thinking resourcefully she turned to her life-long love of designing clothing and to her son and daughter for inspiration. Mimiikids, Arta’s timeless yet modern children’s clothing line, grew out of this pivotal moment. Mimiikids collections are inspired from old photographs from the last century. Arta travels to fabric exhibitions to find the right linen or wool blends and tweed fabric in order to create chic and simple sophistication that can be worn for special occasions as well as everyday. In addition to timeless pieces for girls, it was important to Arta to design quality pieces for boys since she noticed that there is always a shortage of cute designs. Today Mimiikids is worn by children all over the world and Arta’s business continues to grow.
